Fucking assholes!

Basil had been trying to follow the scent of his bitch, but each time he lost the trail, it took him way too long to find it again. But the fading perfume of his woman wasn’t what worried him. He was dogged and almost tunnel-visioned in his pursuit of her. What worried the fuck out of him was the number of wolves he’d smelled on the air. If he didn’t know better he’d have thought they were looking for him.

He snorted. Of course they’re looking for you, dickhead. You’re in their territory. What pack of wolves would ignore a lone strange werewolf in their area?

Right now, he’d run far away from the direction he’d intended to go, away from the target he’d been sniffing out.

The longer he ran, the angrier he became. He’d had no idea that Aztec was rife with pack members. He should have known there were others of his kind here, but he’d been out of the loop for so long, he’d lost contact with the rumor mill. Just because he wasn’t part of a pack didn’t mean he was stupid. Whenever he’d encountered another rogue wolf, information and gossip was exchanged after he and the other person had gauged whether they were about to get their throats ripped out.

Lone werewolves were very unsocial creatures and hated being around others of the same species. Hence, the lonely lives of solitude. On the rare occasion a rogue would get sick of living by themselves and join up with a pack as long as the alpha and other members of said pack accepted them.

Nevertheless that was rare.

Rogue wolves were antisocial because of their aggressive tendencies and their lack of ability to connect with others, let alone play nice with family members.

Basil had walked away from his home and family the moment he’d turned eighteen. His alpha father had been a narcissistic, passive-aggressive asshole who’d done everything he could to belittle him and everyone else in the pack just to make himself feel good and superior.

While the thought of challenging his father had crossed his mind, he’d quickly vetoed that idea. The first reason was that he hadn’t wanted to be responsible for leading and dealing with all the politics and bullshit of being the leader. The second reason was because of his upbringing and who his father was, he didn’t think he’d get any respect from other males in the pack. In other words if he’d managed to win fighting for the alpha position without getting his throat ripped out, he was likely to have spent the rest of his days defending the position. Who in their right mind wanted to risk their life and to fight for something they didn’t even want? Certainly not him.

He blamed his cowardly bully of a father for everything that had happened to him, and no matter how hard he tried to get rid of the anger roiling in his gut, it wouldn’t budge. In fact, the anger just seemed to get worse and worse until he felt as if it was consuming him.
